First District Communities - Tiverton
Tiverton was originally incorporated in 1694 as part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. In 1746 was annexed by Rhode Island through a royal decree along with many of the surrounding towns. During the revolutionary war, Tiverton was best known as a refuge for Americans fleeing the British who occupied much of Rhode Island at that time.
Today Tiverton has become a wonderful resort town and suburban residential area. Perfect for a summer retreat or as a great place to raise a family, Tiverton has a lot to offer.
